I enjoy wine. I also enjoy hockey (i.e. the Boston Bruins). It seems like these two interests don’t tend to mesh together.
The people I know in the wine world tend not to care about hockey. And the people I know who are into hockey tend not to be into wine. That isn’t to say that they are so separate that no single person I know is into both. That is absolutely not true. What I am saying is that two of the things I enjoy are not usually connected, and it’s kind of a bummer.
The only wine that I can see being associated with hockey is ice wine because there are a number of producers in Canada that make it. I don’t think that should be the case. While I’m at home, I’ll often be sipping a glass of wine while watching the game and let me tell you, it’s never ice wine. Unless it’s kind of warm out, it tends to be a big, bold red.
But something tells me that I wouldn’t be able to find anything resembling that while I was actually at a hockey game. And even if I could, I’m willing to bet that it would be looked down upon. I feel like it’s a shame.
Here’s a question: Are you into wine and hockey? Will you be watching the US hockey team in the Olympics with a nice big glass of wine? I sure will, and hopefully I’m not going to be the only one.
