Earlier this week, I was hanging with Dale for another Taste Live event and it turned out that he had a surprise. He had gotten a palate cleanser that he wanted to try out following the event. I was on board with the plan, so as soon as we finished trying out our four wines, we gave the cleaner a try.
The cleanser is called SanTasti and comes in a variety of flavors but we had the classic and cucumber flavors. The instructions from the company were to try a white, try a red, go back to the white, and then the red to note the difference in flavors of the wines both times. Then, we had SanTasti and tried the white again. I didn’t expect to be wowed, but I was. The white wasn’t muddled as it was following a red. It was crisp, as if I hadn’t had any wine at all and was tasting it for the first time.
We were all a little surprised, but Dale decided to bring out the big guns. We tried 20 year old Tawny Port against Riesling. If the cleanser defeated this matchup, well, I was sold.
Tawny Port entered the ring. My mouth was happy, but honestly, pretty destroyed. Riesling was not pleasant after it. But then I tried SanTasti between the Port and the Riesling. The Riesling tasted gorgeous and there were no hints of port in my mouth.
I was appalled in the best way possible. I’m a believer. Plus, the cucumber flavor is delicious. Before I left, I took a few sips of it on its own because it was that good. I’d drink it by itself (no joke).
Want to know the kicker?
For the time being, they are offering two bottles to try for a penny, plus shipping. It ends up being a total of $5. If you’re curious or if you do some serious tasting where you need to cleanse, I highly recommend it. It would be worth sneaking into large tastings so that your mouth can remain on point for every wine you encounter.
