Over the weekend, I went to the screening of Blood Into Wine at the Somerville Theater. Let me just say, I was a very happy gal.
Blood Into Wine is the documentary of Maynard James Keenan’s venture into wine. He’s been the lead singer for a number of bands, but most notably Tool. He’s put music to the side for the time being to really focus on making wine and he’s making wine in Arizona. It just so happens that most people think he’s nuts because Arizona isn’t exactly wine country, but it’s a challenge, right?
I’ve been a fan of Tool for a lot longer than I’ve been a fan of wine (due to age restrictions on the latter) but this documentary brought both of those things together quite nicely. The one thing I have to note in this post is that I laughed a lot more than I expected to. There are parts that are downright funny. Of course, some of them were a little wine nerdy and the crowd was mostly Tool fans, so I think I was the loudest laugher at some points, but who cares? (As a little aside, if you’re able to see it, make sure you don’t leave before the credits.)
I enjoyed the movie and I think if you’re interested in either Maynard or wine, you should see it. It was worth the (surprisingly low) $8 per ticket. There are still screenings going on around the country and I’m sure it will be released on DVD shortly thereafter.
