If you follow my Twitter, you probably have noticed that I like the Bruins a little bit (understatement) and that they’re in the playoffs. We just finished off the first round of the playoffs and I have a serious wine pairing conundrum. I’m not sure which wine wins best pairing for the series.

As I wrote about last week, I picked up a few wines, but settled in to drink a few glasses of the d’Arenberg The Hermit Crab during Wednesday night’s epically long, double over-time win. The game was so intense that I could barely breath. I’m serious. So with that intensity, I was drinking this wine and it had a super aromatic nose and was overall just really, really interesting. I found myself taking sips, trying to figure it out, and then getting sucked back into the game until the next commercial break. It’s a wine that I quite enjoyed and I’ll certainly be picking it up again in the near future.

I thought that was the wine pairing of the series but then last night I had another wine and it brought serious flavor (and we won the series, so you see how I’m getting swayed here). I’m now utterly and completely torn. Last night  I was sipping the delightful Vidal Blanc by Travessia Urban Winery (which is located right in New Bedford, MA) and it seriously rivaled the d’Arenberg. Very ripe, delicious fruit and serious acidity. Both wines were fantastic and both games were awesome wins. I can’t even pick. Just know that these whites stand up to intense playoff hockey and come highly recommended.

Hopefully my Round 2 wine pick will be just as fantastic and we’ll be moving on to Round 3 by then. Let’s go Bruins!

Note: The Travessia wine was received as a sample.
